Textile Preservation in Historic House Museums Open Access

Ideal textile preservation conditions include stable temperature and humidity, limited lighting, and no pests. Museums cannot provide perfect conditions as they display their collections to the public, and historic house museums have additional difficulty. Existing structures are often architecturally significant, and must be utilized as exhibition space for collections. The example of the Preservation Society of Newport County, Rhode Island, demonstrates how historic house museums deal with textile preservation.
