Top Textbooks at GW Libraries: Helping Students Access Expensive Course Materials Open Access

GW Libraries’ Top Textbooks Program began as a shared vision of GW Student Association President, Peak Sen Chua and Dean of Libraries, Geneva Henry, to make course materials more affordable to GW students. The library’s OER Team launched the fall 2017 pilot program, acquiring 1-2 copies of required textbooks for a select group of undergraduate, high enrollment courses with traditionally expensive textbooks and placed them on course reserve in Gelman Library for use by all students. Voluntary Library Gift funds were used to purchase Top Textbooks. OER Team members, Dorinne Banks and Tolonda Henderson will present on the successes and challenges of piloting a textbooks on reserves initiative.
