The transfer of technology across geographic, climate and national boundaries is a phenomenon that has been occurring for thousands of years. War, money, ambition, hatred and chance have each played their part in scattering technology across time, culture and space. These and many other factors have also contributed to the prevention of transfer and to the stagnation and demise of whole civilizations.
