RMRD: HIPAA-Compliant Solution for Rapid Medical Test Results Delivery
Open Access DepositedThis Praxis, RMRD, holds profound personal significance due to my experience navigating healthcare challenges when my brother, Manocher, a freshman college student, was in a coma. Obtaining his medical test results during his critical health situation proved nearly impossible, inspiring my commitment to ensuring efficient access for patients and their families. I aim to improve patient care resilience by integrating various technology components and smart devices while ensuring HIPAA compliance and security measures. The analysis explores innovative approaches to ensure the secure and efficient delivery of medical test results, addressing critical gaps in the current healthcare system. By applying advanced technology and data security principles, we can create a more robust, patient-centric healthcare experience. With over nine years at the University of Washington Medical Center and education in cybersecurity since 2017, I am dedicated to enhancing patient care with advanced technology through this praxis. The primary goal of this praxis is to develop a healthcare data exchange method that uses local hosts and is open source. This innovative method focuses on a user-friendly delivery of medical test results to patients through secure text messages upon consent. This praxis provides an easy and sustainable solution to address critical medical test result delivery issues without technical complexity, empowering patients and improving healthcare compared to the online test results delivery method that requires account credentials and technical proficiency. This praxis minimizes cyber risks to electronic health records in case of data breaches. Furthermore, this praxis aims to deliver test results to patients via a secure messaging platform as soon as results are ready, prioritizing the safety of clinical history data and patient care. Only minimum necessary patient information will be shared to decrease exploitation. This workflow represents a significant advancement for patient-centered care, their families, and the healthcare industry.
