AbstractThe amount of work that is done by asynchronous teams continues to increase. These teams are comprised of members in different time zones and they operate in a workspace at different times. Many collaborative software tools exist to support these teams. However, there currently are no means to evaluate the usefulness of such collaborative tools. This paper proposes an evaluation framework for software collaboration tools that support asynchronous teams. The framework includes the collaboration tool characteristics of; Awareness, Context Persistence, Calendar Assist, Coordination and Visualization.
