Let's Rage
Open Access DepositedLet’s Rage is an exploration of the transformative potential of art to address rage as a complex emotion, using tactile objects to facilitate the journey from rage to repose. I create pillows that are stuffed with shredded rants which are collected from the larger community. The rants are written expressions of raw emotion, each one has been fragmented and transformed into soft, inviting forms within the pillows. I use rage from the larger community as a way of engaging with the dynamics of individual and collective catharsis, a form of release and transformation. I invite people to interact and add to the piece, creating a space that is living and ever changing. By asking people to contribute their own rage and rants, I aim to create a shared dialogue about the complex dynamics of rage, and the power it holds. By inviting the broader community to share their rants in a space that is comforting, I aim to challenge the negative representations and connotations of rage. Instead, I reimagine rage as a unifying, positive force for healing and change. My choice of material and processes are also deliberate. Chiffon provides a luxurious and translucent quality, allowing the words to come through while also making the pillows, and the rage by extension, feel soft and inviting. Through the act of shredding and stuffing the pillows, I embody the transformation that is necessary in creating personal and societal healing over time. The pillows act not only as tactile objects for viewers to engage with, but are also invitations to reflect on their own personal experiences with rage, and the possibility of healing through invited expression.
