Promoting Public Awareness about People with Visual Disabilities

Humans rely on different senses to perceive and navigate the world. Sight, sounds, taste, smell, and touch. For people with visual impairment or other disabilities, it takes more effort and costs to be able to live independently like abled-body people, through special training and assistance of technologies, yet achievable. As the population number and average age of visually impaired getting higher and higher, there is a demand for social attention and awareness on these people. This study focuses on researching the insight of the current situation about the visually impaired, on the perspective of social involvement, living situation, physical or mental demands, design and technologies, and potential strategies. Based on both quantitative and qualitative research from online materials and stakeholder interviews, the author redefined the project which concentrated on the strategy to promote public awareness about people with visual disabilities and developed a video game as a solution in order to serve both educational and wide-spreading purposes.
