On the Other Side of the Field

This is a multimedia documentary project that focuses on survivors of brain injury as they navigate through long term recovery. Three men meet once a week at a horse ranch in northern Virginia for a complementary therapy that assists them in healing and rehabilitation through the development of horsemanship skills. They are able to fight against feelings of loneliness and isolation from the outside world by developing connections with the horses. The story seeks to show their journey towards patience and healing through spending time at the horse ranch while the subjects learn, as well as sitting down to interview both the men and the therapists in charge of the program. The goals of the program try to fight against the standards of life that are often set for anyone labeled as handicapped, blind, disabled, or having suffered from a stroke, through nontraditional methods of therapy.
