College Campus Resource Centers: Trans-Friendly Or Trans-Ambivalent?

In recent years, many college campuses have invested in establishing campus based resource centers for the growing population of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) students. Almost all of the established resource centers target the LGBT community as a whole and researchers have argued that in many cases these centers overlook the unique challenges faced by the transgender student body. In this study the perceptions of LGBT campus center staff are analyzed and the practices, policies, programs, and advocacy of their programs are explored in relation to the challenges transgender students face. Implications for current and future campus based centers as well as the continued push for an inclusive college environment will be discussed.
