Using Structural Equation Modeling to Examine the Influence of Cultural Humility and Mindfulness on Multicultural Competence
Open Access DepositedDespite the increasing focus on mindfulness, cultural humility, and cultural competence in extant literature, there is a notable lack of clarity in operationalizing and conceptualizing these concepts. The gap in understanding highlights a pressing need for further research to explore the relationships between these widely recognized constructs. The present study sought to investigate how mindfulness and cultural humility contribute to multicultural competence among practicing counselors. By examining the relations among these three key variables, the study aimed to identify whether cultural humility and mindfulness can serve as predictors of multicultural competence. Understanding these predictors could enhance our grasp of these constructs and suggest practical approaches for incorporating multicultural competence into clinical training programs. The present study employed structural equation modeling to investigate the underlying factor structures of each construct and the relationships among mindfulness, cultural humility, and multicultural competence in counselors. The findings indicate that incorporating mindfulness training and cultural humility practices could be effective strategies for enhancing cultural competence in professional counselors, showcasing their potential as valuable components of counselor education and training.
