Landing
Open AccessThe thesis project Landing focuses on the story about Chinese overseas purchasing agents buy goods and ship them directly to clients in China in order to avoid import taxes. High tuition and living expenses make this a perfect informal job for Chinese nationals studying in the United States. The work is lucrative but chaotic, and even risky; if Chinese officials were to seize a package, it is the purchasing agent who would pay the fines and tariffs. This project follows the specific two Chinses overseas purchasing agents, Jiajie Si and Tru Wang, two Chinese overseas purchasing agents living Washington, D.C., interviews them why they became the purchasing agents, and their business process. Like other Chinese students who study in the United States, they deal with homesickness and loneliness, but also manage to serve as a cultural bridge between cultures.Landing project includes still photographs, documentary and portraits, connect the trade between United States and China. And a photo book was made as another way to present the project.
