The Changing Capital

The Changing Capital is a graduate thesis project studying the changing architecture of Washington, D.C., produced by Dean Pagani for the New Media Photojournalism program at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at George Washington University, class of 2015. The thesis website,  www.thechangingcapital.com, includes five videos, two photo essays and a daily blog discussing D.C. architecture.This thesis concludes that as a result of growing federal government spending, the economy of Washington, D.C., did not slow down following the recession of 2008, instead, a building boom continued resulting in historic changes to the architectural look of the city.As the capital of the United States, Washington, D.C., is an international city. The architectural choices Washingtonians make in the planning, building and preservation of buildings makes a statement to the rest of the world about how we view ourselves as a nation and our lifestyle.
