Open AccessAbstract of ThesisLacuna BlossomsLacuna Blossoms (2022) is a living archive that emerged amidst the earth wide loss in our gestures and rituals of grief and care, mourning and melancholia in a post COVID-19 existence. Lacuna defined as the forms and contours that take shape in the intentional practice of reclaiming silence – by choosing to un-name it. In mourning and holding space for what was lost, inciting rest for what remains. Rest as the act of re-witnessing and nourishing the memories of stillness in our lives. This thesis integrates a collection of transcripts, letters, photographs, floral sculptures – partly inherited, partly modified, partly invented – as a reimagining of heritage work. In the process of restoring erased histories, revive lived experiences, and remapping shared humanity to shift the contours of our borders in cultural, collective memory.To translate the word [death] from the Korean language돌아갈 is to state the return to where we came. This work serves as an altar for us to return to as we carry the counter memories of how we belong, gather, and rest in public.
