Promises to Keep Pen Pal Project
Open AccessPromises to Keep Pen Pal Project is a community outreach initiative which connects six elementary students who write letters to six residents from an assisted living community over the course of several months. The messages exchanged over the course of this project generate a narrative which highlights the importance of being active and loving community members. Promises to Keep links two communities through direct interpersonal written and verbal communication with the goal of exploring what may be lost in the ever-growing use of social media and personal digital devices. As members of our communities, we should always promise ourselves that we will be understanding and caring toward our fellow community members. The conversations represented in this project demonstrate how valuable and powerful that promise can be.
