Application of TOPSIS to Ranking of Static Analysis Tools for Cybersecurity

Open Access

Static analysis tools for cybersecurity are used to detect Common Weakness Enumerations (CWE), software weaknesses defined by MITRE and supported by the US Department of Homeland Security, in software. These tools can be expensive and many software developers are unsure which tool to use. Most case studies and literature about selection of static analysis tools are based on overall accuracy of tools, and do not include customized criteria for companies. Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) will be applied to ranking static analysis tools, using Common Weakness Scoring System (CWSS) as a customized weighting criterion.
