Designing the Set for a Production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

This thesis examines the designing process of the set for a production of the musical Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Stephen Sondheim as it was produced by the Department of Theater and Dance in collaboration with the Department of Music at The George Washington University. The production was performed in the Dorothy Betts Marvin Theater, from November 1st to November 4th, 2012 as part of the 2012-2013 MainStage Season. This thesis includes an analysis of the time period and outlines in detail my design process and the implementation of the final proposal based on specific objectives within the main objective of designing the set. This thesis will be accompanied by research, script analysis, renderings, drafting plates, photographs, and conclusions relevant to the set design process.
