Easy Remote
Open AccessNowadays, owning multiple TVs, TV boxes, or projections is very common for a household, whereas keeping their respective remote controls is not a pleasant job. Not only do we need to prepare non-environmentally friendly batteries for them, but it is common to mix or lose them. In addition, physical TV remotes full of dizzy buttons provide an irritating user experience while trying to type words with them. Many companies have developed remote apps to solve those issues and this thesis will evaluate whether they have made desirable products and then try to explore an innovative, intuitive, and inclusive design for the TV remote. To fully understand streamers’ pain points, I conducted the following research: generative research, demographic research, ethnographic user research, and competitive research of existing products. The key results from the research data show that (i) streamers use only a few buttons under each scene; (ii) streamers want to navigate to their favorite channels immediately after turning on TV; (iii) voice and typing-based search functions are desirable features; (iv) lacking the sense of touch on buttons of a remote app could generate a sense of insecurity for users.
