A Therapeutic Refuge

Open Access

This thesis will explore the interior environment and how it can benefit mental health, specifically in talk-therapy and meditative settings. An interior space is conceptualized and produced through BIM software. This space is a beneficial environment for talk-therapy and meditation. The obligations for the spaces are based on research and the concept for the space. These obligations of design guide the creative process to the end. These obligations are also considered rules of the design for this project. The first rule is to bring nature inside, literally with real vegetation, and figuratively with materials that represent nature. The second rule is to utilize curves and shapes that mimic movement in the architecture, furniture and material selection. The third rule is to use light as the most profound generator in this setting. The final and fourth rule is that the interiors make the end-user feel elevated. These interiors are comfortable and classical in detail to evoke confidence and bravery.
