AN EMPIRICAL STUDY RELATING OBJECT-ORIENTED METHOD TO SOFTWARE PRODUCTIVITY IN MILITARY ORGANIZATIONS

The purpose of this study was to determine whether military organizations are achieving productivity gains by using the object-oriented method. Twenty projects from ten military organizations were used in the study. Each organization provided data on two homogeneous software projects--one implemented in object-oriented methods and one implemented by using traditional methods. Each pair was similar in size, operating environment, application domain, complexity, personnel capability, and reliability. These control variables were chosen on the basis of their impact on productivity. Results showed that all ten organizations achieved a productivity gain with object-oriented methods and that the effect of the object-oriented method on software productivity is statistically significant.
