Makeup: Transforming Identity
Open AccessMakeup: Transforming Identity will explore the transformation of identity through the use of makeup by examining cultural differences and norms, self-image, and the beauty industry as it has developed through time.Since ancient times, men and women have sought to alter their appearance in some way or another. The uses and purposes of makeup have evolved over time and have become the tools for transforming one's identity. While this subject may be familiar to many visitors, this exhibition aims to highlight the subject of makeup in a unique and exciting way. Makeup: Transforming Identity will look at the history of makeup, its uses across cultures, global trends and products. Ideas of self-image and physical perception in relation to the uses of makeup will be examined and visitors will be able to evaluate their role in the beauty industry. Through the use of displayed objects, photographs, and film clips visitors will have the opportunity to compare and contrast makeup across a variety of visual and audio representations. Various interactives and demonstrations will foster new conversation and allow for an immersive experience into the beauty culture. Makeup: Transforming Identity will aid the audience in understanding the evolution of makeup, the idea of transforming identity, and encourage the development of new ideas about makeup.
