Essays in the Economics of Crime

This dissertation consists of three independent essays that empirically investigate topics in theeconomics of crime literature within developing countries. Chapter 1 studies the within-family labor market effects of incarceration using administrative data from Ecuador. Chapter 2 evaluates the direct and indirect effects of a nationwide police video surveillance system implemented in Ecuador. Finally, chapter 3 estimates the crime-specific impact of power outages using data from utility companies in Chile.
