This research will investigate shifts in Israeli and Palestinian public opinion generated by historic events in the Middle East conflict and diplomacy. For example, Sadat’s 1977 visit to Israel and the 1978 Camp David Accords, the Oslo Accords, the First and Second Intifadas, October 7th, and events in between. This study aims to ascertain whether there are consistent patterns in terms of public opinion shifts generated by escalations of violence, on the one hand, or breakthroughs of diplomacy. By tracing public sentiment before and after each event, this research highlights the nuanced relationship between public attitudes and the trajectory of the conflict. This work contributes to the broader scholarship on the role of public opinion in conflict and the understanding how public opinion can enable, or constrain, conflict resolution.
