Virtual Optical Network Embedding with Node and Link Splitting in Elastic Optical Networks
Open AccessNetwork Virtualization is an essential technology for future networks and Elastic OpticalNetworks (EONs) are considered as a revolutionary improvement over traditional opticalnetworks. It is always a challenge to find a better way to solve the Virtual Optical NetworkEmbedding (VONE) problems for EONs, though related researches have been done fortraditional optical networks. Therefore, in this thesis, we propose four novel algorithms forVONE problems for EONs. Based on the possibility of splitting the required computationalresources for a virtual network among physical nodes (node splitting) and the requiredbandwidth among multiple virtual links (link splitting), the four algorithms are the algorithmfor no splitting; node splitting only; link splitting only and double splitting. In addition,we introduce a novel way to calculate the cost of mapping a virtual network request andadd it to our algorithms. We evaluate our algorithms in terms of the total revenue of therequests and the blocking ratio under both static and dynamic traffic. Then we compare oursimulation results to a baseline algorithm and our own no splitting algorithm. The resultsindicate that the algorithms we propose have a significant improvement.
