America Eats: Food Media and the American Diet Open Access

America Eats explores the relationship between food media and the American diet. This thesis project poses a conceptual design for a traveling exhibition that introduces this topic to audiences in the unhealthiest cities in America, in an attempt to make them more aware of why we eat what we eat, and allow them to reconsider their daily food choices. The exhibit will present the information through a series of fun, interactive experiences that trace the history and development of food media since World War II, both in popular culture and advertising. The exhibit also looks to the future, finding ways to use those same media techniques to promote a healthier lifestyle, and allow the visitors to continue to share this information beyond the exhibit's walls. Extensive background research on food in media and popular culture, as well as a detailed exhibition outline and list of objects, are also included.
