Monolayer graphene is well known for its high carrier mobility and low light absorption, which is ideal for the top and bottom layers material for tunneling heterjunctions. Moreover, by the Coulomb blockade effect there is only one carrier tunneling through the barrier per time, which enables the probability of reaching single photon emitters. Here in this thesis we designed and fabricated ultra-thin 2D material based vertical tunneling junctions and discussed about the nano scale fabrication technique and fabricating challenges faced when controlling the uniformity and thickness of the tunneling barrier oxide.
