Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Immigrant Women Labor Force Participation in the US

MENA, a group rarely mentioned in immigration studies due to their racial classification as white, has been under-researched in Census evaluations and inimmigrations studies. Some studies have used Arab ancestry as a proxy to study that population (Almutairi 2018), while other countries such as Canada have included MENA in their immigration studies (Solati, Chowdhury, and Rosado 2023). This research aims to study the labor force participation of MENA immigrant women who reside in the US, by investigating how different factors such as education, years in the US, presence of children under the age of five, English proficiency, and other factors impact their rates. Among all MENA countries, Yemen had the lowest female labor force participation at 20%, while Iran had the highest at 69%.
