Chromatin Remodeling Proteins ARID4A and ARID4B Regulate Tight Junction Protein Claudin-3 Expression
Open AccessClaudins are a family of proteins that are the most important components of the tight junctions. Claudin3 (Cldn3), a member of Claudin family, is a component of the newly formed tight junction. Functionally, tight junctions between the somatic Sertoli cells form the basis of the blood-testes barrier that is important for nourishing the developing sperm cell throughout the stage of spermatogenesis and testes development. Cldn3 has also been reported to be expressed in the tight junctions within the nephric duct and ureteric bud, and promotes tubule formation in kidney development. Moreover, Cldn3 was reported to be overexpressed in ovarian cancer cell. It is believed that Cldn3 overexpression in ovarian cancer enhances tumor cell motility, invasiveness and survival. In this thesis, we describe a novel regulatory mechanism governing Cldn3 expression. By chromatin remodeling protein Arid4a and Arid4b.
