Targeting Cyclophilin-CD147 interaction as an approach to treat inflammatory diseases
Open AccessThe recruitment and trafficking of leukocytes are essential for the inflammatory process. Extracellular cyclophilins are described as chemotactic factors for human leukocytes. This chemotactic capacity is dependent upon interaction with the cell surface signaling receptor CD147. It was recently shown that cyclophilin-CD147 interaction plays a direct role in the recruitment of leukocytes into inflamed tissues. In this study, our findings strongly suggest that interaction between CypA and CD147 can be inhibited by small compounds. Thus, compounds targeting the CypA-CD147 interaction may potentially prevent certain inflammatory diseases where the CypA-CD147 interaction plays a role, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lung inflammation.
