Inseparable
Open Access"Inseparable" highlights the healing power of service and companion dogs for war veterans who have suffered emotional and physical injuries on the battlefield. This multimedia project profiles Ryan Major, a U.S. Army infantryman severely injured in 2006, and his German shepherd service dog Theodore.Major lost both of his legs when an improvised explosive device (IED) deployed while he was on foot patrol in Ramadi, Iraq. He was 22-years-old. Major was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Both legs were amputated above the knee.Over time, Major has progressed, physically and emotionally. When Major received Theo through the Florida-based nonprofit organization, Paws 4 Liberty, Major's quality of life dramatically improved.Using still photography, video, and interviews, "Inseparable" explores the bond between humans and canines, and the power of companionship and love.
