Living with a Forgotten War Project

Living with a Forgotten War is a documentary project about the life of a Vietnam Veteran who returned from war. He lives with his memories and injuries while the war he fought in is gradually being forgotten. Michael W. Marceau was born in 1949 in Bethesda, Maryland. On his 20th birthday, he opened a draft letter inviting him to join the U.S. Army in 1969. “The worst birthday present ever,” he said. This multimedia project recounts Michael’s time in Vietnam, his recovery and reflections on his experience since returning to the United States, and the life he leads today as an anti-war activist. This project employs video, still photographs, archival broadcast footage as well as Marceau’s personal letters and photographs.
