Analysis of the Long Range Interaction in the Ternary System
Open AccessIn this dissertation, we show that a core-shell structure is a stable solution of the free energy problem for a particular ternary system. The free energy of this ternary system includes an interface energy and a long range interaction energy. This model is derived from a density functional theory for triblock copolymers proposed by Nakazawa and Ohta. We prove the existence of a core-shell solution by reducing the free energy problem to a finite dimensional problem. The finite dimensional problem is then solved explicitly. Finally, we demonstrate that a stability criterion on the parameters determines whether or not the core-shell solution is stable.
