GENERATION DIGITALKelsey Miner, MACorcoran College of Art + Design, 2013Thesis Advisor: Selma Thomas Generation Digital explores how digital technology, particularly the Internet, has globally influenced and defined our daily lives. Our behaviors, interactions and the ways in which we gather and learn information have all drastically morphed from generations prior; such shifts have been brought about by rapid increases and changes in Internet development and usage.Generation Digital uses the Newseum as a venue to discuss how we have been influenced by our use of digital technologies. A personal narrative directs this interactive experience through the key themes of how the Internet has impacted our social, political, educational and financial spheres. Areas of focus include social media, the online presence of the entertainment industry, online dating, political movements instigated or fueled by Internet action, online shopping, smart phones, video games and more.This exhibit encourages visitors to participate in the discussion by recording videos and pictures to YouTube and Instagram in photo booths, using computers to post on Twitter and Facebook and instigating in-person conversations.
