Open AccessThis thesis chronicles the activities and exhibitions of the National Society of Craftsmen (1906-1920) and its successor, the New York Society of Craftsmen (1920-1957), and analyzes them in relation not only to the Arts and Crafts Movement (A&CM;), but also in the context of design trends of the first half of the twentieth century and the continuum of craft practice from the turn of the century to the mid-twentieth century.
