An Exhibition that Advocates for a Social Movement by Promoting Recycling, Repurposing, and Reusing Unwanted Clothing for ReThread DC

Exhibit ReThread DC is a proposal to partner with ReThread DC, an initiative of the DOEE in Washington, DC that provides resources to decrease the impact clothing has on the environment by promoting less buying and minimizing disposal. By proposing an exhibition that partners with ReThread DC, clothing waste concerns will be put on public display. The exhibition would create a daily engagement between DC residents, fashion industry personnel, and the discourse around apparel recycling and waste management. Exhibit ReThread DC will use the exhibition format to advocate for social change. Exhibitions can make effective advocates for social movements because they are “legitimizing institutions,” have institutional resources, and can boost the perception of the movement from within the movement.
