21 Days

21 DAYS is the documentation and exploration of The Sasha Bruce house, the only short-term homeless youth shelter in Washington, D.C. 21 DAYS looks at a shelter that was once a funeral home and the Ghana embassy in our nations capitol. The shelter has 10 beds, 6 for females and 4 for males and 2 caseworkers at all times. The National Alliance to End Homelessness defines homeless youth as unaccompanied minors between the ages of 11 to 17 who lack parental, foster, or institutional care. 1.3 million homeless youths are living unsupervised on the streets, in abandoned buildings, shelters, with friends or with strangers. The United States has the highest poverty rate with 1 in 5 children living in poverty with 1 in 7 children running away. The story is told using photographs, essays, social media, and a project driven website.
