Application of System of Systems Engineering To Facilitate Integration of Complex Legacy Systems

Open Access

Systems of Systems Engineering (SOSE) is a new field and opens a wide challenge for Systems Engineering researchers who are dealing with large scale complex systems. Integration is one of many tasks required by Systems Engineers who are involved in the process of acquiring a working system that fulfills the main mission of the large scale system. This research presents a contribution to define the System of Systems Engineering science through facilitating the integration of two existing large scale complex systems into one. The contribution presented the introduction of a simple and clear process model for integration of large scale complex systems which is referred to as the "M-model." The introduction of the "M-model" that facilitates integration of "existing / old" large scale complex systems with each other unique since most of the current research literature focuses on Systems Engineering integration processes for systems which are still under design and before their final phase-out
