Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Fracture Mechanics in Thermo-Visco- Elastic-Plastic Material

Open Access

The finite element analyses of the different mode fractures in the published literature are limited to the analysis of the object in two-dimensional in the traditional linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM). This paper presents the finite element analysis for the thermo-visvo-elastic-plastic (TVEP) material in a different mode in three-dimension by time. This would show the different aspects of LEFM, which include plastic deformation and dynamics. The research of fracture mechanics usually starts from the elastic mechanic's equation or the elastic-plastic mechanic's equation. Then, by taking the crack as the boundary condition and examining the strain field, the stress field, and the displacement field at the tip of the crack, establishing the relationship with these different fields of the local fracture conditions around the crack tip becomes possible. This work engages the mathematical basics, which are required to determine the response of the crack from the thermo-visvo-elastic-plastic solid. The formulation is based on the conservation of energy concept and the principle of balancing of linear momentum. The finite element method for the thermo-discos-elastic-plastic solid will be discussed in this thesis. In addition, the basic equation for the calculation of the stress field, displacement field, and temperature field will also be explained. Moreover, the material property model is introduced for the large strain fracture. In this work, the finite element computer code incorporates the mathematical basis that is used. It is used to generate an integrated three-dimensional finite element analysis of a solid with a crack on the side. Strain, stress, plastic, and heat transfer are further investigated. The result of the calculation is based on the balance of linear momentum and conservation of energy. Finally, by applying different boundary conditions, it will show the stress field, plastic distribution, and temperature field by the time under investigation.
