Dance! The Exhibition: Re-discovering American Dance through Audience Participation and Immersion
Open AccessDance! The Exhibition seeks to instill an appreciation and understanding of 20th century American dance through participation in immersive and interactive dance experiences. Dance in America has fallen behind the visual arts and musical arts in terms of participation, education, and accessibility. Stereotypes and preconceived notions about flawless bodies, innate talent, and superhuman flexibility being required prerequisites to participate in dance make it still more undesirable and intimidating. By creating a fun and relaxed environment where visitors may engage in a variety of interactive and immersive activities, audiences have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of 20th century American dance through personal experience.
