Scenic Design for The Workroom

This thesis documents the author's role as the scenic designer for The Workroom, a theatrical production staged at the Dorothy Betts Theater of George Washington University from November 3rd through November 6th, 2017. The thesis reviews the planning and execution of the scenic design and analyzes the artistic and managerial benefits the author brought to the production as well as the challenges she faced as an international student from China collaborating with a native-born American production team. The thesis documents in detail how the scenic design process unfolded over a period of nine weeks leading up to the staging of the play. It also outlines some lessons learned. Photographic images are appended to the text to illustrate issues referenced in the four chapters.
