Supporting Students with Behavioral Challenges on the Bus

The focus of this study was to understand school bus drivers and attendants’ perceptions of their self-efficacy when delivering the related service of student transportation to urban students with disabilities. For this qualitative study, an inductive approach was employed using interviews as the primary source of qualitative data. According to Merriam and Tisdell (2016), the most common form of qualitative research is the basic interpretive study. Interpretive research assumes that reality is social construction. Interview questioning in interpretive studies advances tentative interpretations of participant responses (Merriam, 2009). The research questions for this dissertation focus on bus staff efficacy in delivering behavior management supports to students who exhibit behavioral challenges and are identified with a disability. The following research questions guided the study, serving to capture information about school bus staff perceptions.
