Open Access

This dissertation is a three-essay model, using different econometric techniques to understand important health care quality and finance issues. The first essay examined the impact of health workforce configuration on quality and volume of care at community health centers using a production function approach with policy scenario-based simulation. The second essay examined that the impact of hospital ranking information from Hospital Compare affects the bargaining power between self-insured employers and hospitals on the pricing of cardiac procedures using a Nash bargain model. The third essay explored the impact of Medicaid expansion on the financial viability of federally-funded community health centers using a difference-in-differences design.
