The Physician-Soldier: Death, War, and Service in the Military-Industrial Complex
Open Access DepositedThis thesis aims to analyze and comprehend the role of physician-soldiers within combat and wartime settings by examining their navigation within institutions like the US military. I endeavor to shed light on military doctors’ relationship to death, duty, and the pursuit of healing within an environment characterized by both killing and surveillance. What happens when this balance of fealty and care is violated, leaving an imprint on one’s moral code and mental well-being? Weapons of war have changes, and so too has the role of the physician-soldier.
