Empowering Futures: The Capital of Health Pathway Programs in Addressing Educational Inequity in Health Careers A Case Study of the Saturday Science Academy II Program at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science

This study endeavors to explore the nuanced perspectives of alumni from the Saturday Science Academy II program at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, delving into the meaningful aspects of their program experiences. Employing Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings’ (2005) concept of repayment of the education debt as a guiding theoretical framework and drawing on Dr. Tara J. Yosso’s (2005) Community Cultural Wealth Model as a conceptual concept, the research adopts an anti-deficit framework. Through this lens, the study seeks to uncover insights into how Students of Color leveraged the capital provided by the program to navigate and persist in their college studies.
