Exploring Infidelity and Interracial Relationships

In the United States, monogamy and fidelity are typically understood to be givens in romantic relationships. However, infidelity has become one of the leading causes of relationship dissolution. The majority of literature discussing infidelity places a heavy focus on gender dynamics, often neglecting race. This paper seeks to contribute to the literature by exploring the dynamic between infidelity and interracial relationships and its implications on future research. Using a multivariate logistic regression, the findings of this paper confirm that being in an interracial relationship is associated with higher odds of infidelity occurring when compared to a same-race relationship. This was true when considering all variables from the study. Variables that were significant in supporting this finding were quality and duration of relationship, gender, age, education, and marital status.
