Who Participates in Youth Education Programs in Art Museums and Why?

The purpose of this study was to examine the art museum attendance of school children ages 5-18. The study also explored the attendance of school children at three art museums located in Washington, D.C. 156 elementary students (ages 4-12) and 53 high school students (ages 14-18) were surveyed. The study also includes four educators from three art museums who were surveyed and interviewed. The results of the data found that 66% of elementary students had been to an art museum primarily with their parents. In comparison, the data found that 70% of high school students surveyed had visited an art museum with their school.
